Shoppers vote with feet for traffic management

Article Abstract:

Many shoppers find traffic congestion the least attractive feature of their local shopping centre, according to a survey undertaken in 1995 by Colin Buchanan and Partners. Some 60% of all shoppers go on foot to their nearest shopping centre, indicating that most centres have a very specific and small catchment area. At least half of all customers are passing by in a car, according to one in four retail and business managers.
