Raise the roof value

Article Abstract:

The relaxation of planning controls in the UK relating to the placing of telecommunications equipment on buildings has prompted a sharp rise in the number of applications being made by telecommunications operators for permission to place telecommunications equipment on buildings. This trend can bring benefits for property owners and occupiers, as operators will pay in return for permission. However, property owners and occupiers should exercise some caution. They should check that the telecommunications operator is licensed and should ascertain the nature of the equipment.

Compensating commerce for compulsion

Article Abstract:

Procedures relating to compulsory purchase of land in the UK should be changed according to the Country Landowners Association. Privatized utilities are blamed for using compulsory purchase orders (CPOs) when other means would suffice. A railroad project by CrossRail is also cited as causing problems for owners of real estate who could not sell their land for some time although the project was abandoned. No compensation was given for this disruption. Factory owners may also get less in compensation than they have to pay to replace their facilities.
