"SWAT" initiative may speed resolution of assets
Article Abstract:
Among the primary responsibilities of the Resolution Trust Corp (RTC) is the efficient disposal of nonperforming real estate assets in its portfolio. To carry out this task better, the RTC constituted settlement and workout asset teams (SWATs). These small groups of capable government and private-sector professionals have to study and prepare workout strategies for problem loans transferred to the RTC by financially troubled thrift institutions. The speed with which the resolution of assets is undertaken by these SWATs is crucial in the effort to recover taxpayers' money from delinquent loans.

Social Policy Eyes Pension Fund Assets
Article Abstract:
There is an increasing struggle for control of pension funds. The housing industry is active in the struggle and is likely to have the government as an ally. Real estate mortgages' share of total long-term investment, while substantial, shows a decline since 1978. Tables give figures. Pension fund investment in mortgages continues to be relatively small with most going to corporate stocks and bonds. The forces working to influence the investments of the growing pension fund sector are examined.
