A. Ronald Walton, 1943-1996
Article Abstract:
A. Ronald Walton died of acute coronary thrombosis at the age of 53 last Sept. 5, 1997. He was a distiguished professor in Chinese language and lingusitics and a specialist in language pedagogy, policy and planning. He taught at the University of Maryland and was the Deputy Director of the National Foreign Language Center in Washington, D.C. He reviewed language programs and acted as advisor to numerous organizations regarding language issues. The language curriculum he helped shaped were designed to meet 21st-century needs.

Jackson Bailey, 1925-1996
Article Abstract:
Jackson Bailey died on Aug. 2, 1996 at the age of 70. He taught at Earlham College where he founded the Institute for Education on Japan and created the Assistant English Teaching Program. The AET program sent college graduates to Japan to teach English at junior high schools. Bailey received the Order of the Sacred Treasure award from the Japanese government for pormoting greater understanding between the US and Japan.

Gordon B. Turner
Article Abstract:
Gordon B. Turner died at the age of 81 in May 18, 1996. He was awarded his BA degree in 1948 and he finished his doctorates in 1958. In 1959, he joined the American Council of Learned Societies where he served as the Executive Associate and Vice President until his retirement in 1980. He was a faculty member of the Princeton University History Department, specializing in civil-military relations.
