Masjid Manzilgah, 1939-40: test case for Hindu-Muslim relations in Sind
Article Abstract:
'Masjud Manzilgah' is a chapter of a biography of Mohammed Ayub Khuhro, currently a work in progress. Mohammed Khuhro was a politician of note in Sind. His political career from 1921 to the end of the 1970s involved various roles. In 1939 there was a crucial event in Sind that constituted a test case for Hindu-Muslim relations. The event was agitation for the restoration of The Masjid Manzilgah, a Mughal building, to the Muslim community to be used as a mosque. It gave identity and a cause to the Muslims of Sind.

'Sultan among Hindu Kings': dress, titles, and the Islamicization of Hindu culture at Vijayanagara
Article Abstract:
Visual and textual evidence shows that men at the Vijayanagara court adopted Islamicized dress code as a means to improve their political status, especially among the indigenous elite. As a political strategy, the dress code sent the message that the wearers are part of the more universal culture of Islam. The most often described and illustrated articles of clothing worn are the kullayi and the kabayi.

A discussion of Hindu temples is based on the concept of world-systems analysis, and Wallerstein's theoretical approach that focuses on the centrality of the global economic network dominated by Europe as the key to building modern world history. Viewing Hindu temples in a global context their cultural grammar changes.
