The United States and the Tibet issue
Article Abstract:
The US policy toward Tibet has significant implications for its relations with China. The Chinese occupation of and sovereignty over Tibet in 1959 was not officially recognized by the US. On the contrary, the US provided assistance to Tibetan guerrillas who were fighting for independence from China. Successive American administrations from Ronald Reagan to Bill Clinton openly criticized and condemned China's human rights abuses in Tibet. Moreover, top government officials initiated talks with the Dalai Lama, Tibet's spiritual leader.

Looking across the Yalu: Chinese assessments of North Korea
Article Abstract:
China maintains strong ties with North Korea to protect its national interest. Although the two countries have a similar ideology, their relations are no longer based on such similarity. China is more concerned with the preservation of stability on the Korean peninsula than on helping a communist ally. China's influence on North Korean affairs was evident when it was able to persuade North Korea to negotiate with the US regarding its nuclear weapons program.

Sino-Indian relations: present and future
Article Abstract:
Sino-Indian relations will remain strong despite several lingering problems, such as the border question and the Tibetan issue. Since Sino-Indian diplomatic relations at the ambassador level were restored in the mid-1970s, the two countries have been involved in several joint efforts on politics, trade and culture. As long as each country's national interest is preserved by the strong ties between them, India and China will continue to remain close allies.
