The security of sea lanes in South East Asia
Article Abstract:
Asian economies are dependent on the sea for transportation and the process of globalization has increased the importance of the sea lanes along Southeast Asia in the transportation of goods, energy and raw materials. Joint steps are taken by the littoral countries to make the regional sea lanes secure from terrorist or pirate attacks potentially capable of severely affecting the economy.

The regionalization of avian influenza in East Asia: Responding to the next Pandemic (?)
Article Abstract:
The impact of a highly pathogenic version of an avian influenza virus-H5N1 on Southeast Asian countries and how those countries have coordinated their response through existing or new regional institutions or mechanisms is explored. It is concluded that Southeast Asia has yet to effectively regionalize its approaches to public health challenges.

Pakistan in 2006: Safe center, dangerous peripheries
Article Abstract:
The Pakistan center remained politically stable during 2006 but its western and northern borders continued to be violent and chaotic inviting domestic and international condemnation on its handling of terrorism. Symbolic steps toward a democracy were taken by opposition leaders in Pakistan.
