Gaines, a very popular writer, who has been felicitated with a number of honors and awards, speaks about his work and his sense of place rooted in the old plantation in Point Coupee, Louisiana, where he was born. He recommends the young and upcoming writers to learn laughter and humor from all the mature writers to enjoy their work and make a more successful career in writing.

Climbing out of 'The Briar Patch': Robert Penn Warren and the divided conscience of segregation
Article Abstract:
Southern author Robert Penn Warren defended the practice of segregation in his 1930 essay 'The Briar Patch,' but later recanted those views and wrote against segregation in two essays 'Who Speaks for the Negro?' and 'Segregation: The Inner Conflict of the South.' The two essays and his theories about Southern conscience are examined.
