Caribbean films in the French curriculum: strengthening linguistic and multicultural competency
Article Abstract:
Francophone Caribbean films can enrich the French language curriculum and also promote linguistic skill development and enhance multicultural competency in elementary, intermediate or advanced level classes. Strategies for using two documentary videos by Alain D'Aix, 'Goute Sel' and 'Nou Pres, Nou Loin,' are described, with some suggested learning activities related to the films. 'Gout Sel' deals with literacy and education in Haiti, while 'Nou Pres, Nou Loin' explores Creole languages as aspects of cultural identity in the Caribbean.
