China's environmental security and the role of non-national actors
Article Abstract:
Inter-governmental, non-governmental and multi-national organizations are helping China resolve the environmental crisis brought on by the initiation of economic reforms in 1978. China's need for external funds and technological assistance to solve its environmental problems has propelled its recourse to non-national agencies. Joint ventures, such as those between Northern Telecom, Canada, and the Chinese Environmental Protection Agency, and Battelle, Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory and the Energy Research Institute, State Planning Commission of China, are economically beneficial to China.

Can political authoritarianism go hand-in-hand with a free market system?
Article Abstract:
A democratic political systems is essential for the secure and peaceful existence of a free market economy. Educated citizens with good moral values are elemental to the establishment of a democratic system. The economic conditions in China, Taiwan and Russia reveal the ineffectiveness of free market policies under authoritarian regimes. However, authoritarian systems are useful in temporarily stabilizing the turbulent socioeconomic conditions in states.
