China's post-cold war African policy
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to examine how China's domestic concerns and strengths influenced its post-cold war foreign policy towards Africa. The premise that Africa supports a critical role in China's realization of its foreign policy objectives was analyzed. In addition, the correlation between the strengthening of the countries' relations with China's becoming a global power was examined. The end of the cold war, and economic policy changes in China have established opportunities for the country to promote its influence in Africa and realize its foreign policy objectives.

U.S. policy and Taiwan's bid to rejoin the United Nations
Article Abstract:
The US policy toward Taiwan's bid to reclaim its UN membership has far-reaching implications for peace and security in the Asia-Pacific region. While the US categorically supports Taiwan's participation in international organizations, the UN membership is another matter. The US recognizes Beijing as the only true China, and supporting Taiwan's attempt to rejoin the UN would contradict this policy. Moreover, it does not want to antagonize mainland China which is vehemently opposed to Taiwan's reentry to the organization.
