Distant thunder: the regional economies of southwest China and the impact of the Great Depression

Article Abstract:

The Great Depression of the 1930s did not significantly affect the economy of southwest China but did encourage substantial economic restructuring. The Depression affected some microeconomic pockets in the Upper Yangzi largely through the collapse of the silk market.

The relationship between People's Republic of China (PRC) and ARF through the predictions of two Western IR theories is discussed. This is done in order to understand China's need to cooperate on security issues.
