Icons and reform politics in India: The case of S.M. Krishna
Article Abstract:
The analysis of the initial years of the term of Chief Minister of the South Indian state of Karnataka, S.M. Krishna, provides insights into the precise role icons play in the politics of economic reform. The icons influence the functioning of both the state and society, the dominance of icons reduces the role of ideology, and icons ensure that reforms modify crony capitalism rather than remove it.
