Intraprovincial disparities in post-Mao China: a multidimensional analysis of Fujian province
Article Abstract:
A model based on the United Nations Development Program was used as an alternative to the gross domestic product per capita to measure the disparities in interregional development within the provinces of China. Data from the Fujian province in 1990 was utilized to measure economic development, literacy, and infant mortality. The province, along with areas of similar patterns of development, have some means of transport such as railways or waterways. However, Fujian may still be influenced by Maoist policies which restricted trade, migration, and contact with other areas.
