Leadership change in Shanghai: toward the dominance of party technocrats
Article Abstract:
Political leadership in Shanghai has significantly evolved after 1976 which resulted in the dominance of the so-called party technocrats in the political arena. Deng Xiaoping's efforts to modernize the country after the purge of the Gang of Four and his subsequent return to power resulted in the removal of inefficient party leaders and the appointment of new officers selected for their intellect, youth and professionalism. Since 1983, the average age level of the new officers decline and most of the post-1983 appointees are trained in the scientific and technical fields.

Voting in India: Effects of economic change and new party formation
Article Abstract:
The correlation method was applied to study the pattern of changes in the voting process in India. The two factors of correlation were economic changes and the formation of a new party. The study was conducted to find if the voting was issue-related, prospective, or decided by the economy and retrospective. The new-party formation suggests a new ideology which may be beneficial to the country. However, the majority of the voters adhered to the retrospective voting theory, and shifted their support depending on the state of the economy.

Article Abstract:
The 1994 city corporation (CC) elections in Bangladesh were relatively peaceful, with interparty competition providing a system of check and balance. Elected mayors face the difficult challenge of fulfilling the electorate's expectation of good governance and meeting the demands of party members for personal and political rewards. The Bangladeshi elections prove that partisanship can help speed democratization in city governments.
