Democracy and ethnic conflict in India: Precolonial legacies in Tamil Nadu
Article Abstract:
Democracy has been successful in India because its citizens believe strongly in their right to vote. However, an associated feature is the ethnic disparity that had its roots in the British rule. A study of the politics of Tamil Nadu reveals that the kings of the region did not have absolute rights, and the caste rules were respected. With the colonial rule, sect feelings were encouraged, and in post-independence India, politics is dominated by leaders depending on the support of the people whose interests they protect.

Information technology in India: The quest for self-reliance
Article Abstract:
India's economic policy aimed at promoting self sufficiency in the Information Technology (IT) sector since the country's independence in 1947. The computer hardware and software industry has been encouraged through the policy changes of the 1980s. The attention paid to the IT sector has caused other sectors to be neglected. Therefore, the IT sector should be promoted within the broader economic framework that will help in the overall improvement of the economy.
