Merit and mothering: women and social welfare in Taiwanese Buddhism
Article Abstract:
Ciji Gongdehui or the Buddhist Compassion Relief Foundation's success as Taiwan's largest civic organization may be attributed to its religious ideals and the contributions of its women members. Its striking growth in the 1980s coincided with a period of market expansion which is the exact opposite of charity. Obviously, Ciji responded to the needs and opportunities that were available to women at the time which had a marked resemblance with various women's Christian charitable societies in 19th-century North America and Europe.

U.S. military strategic perspectives on the PRC: new frontiers of information-based war
Article Abstract:
The Chinese military's interest in information-based warfare was spurred by the US' success in Operation Desert Storm. This led to the development of the doctrine called "People's War Under Modern Conditions" an offshoot of the US' "Revolution in Military Affairs." Chinese officials believe that the information warfare strategy would help its bid for a superpower status despite a variety of organizational and sociocultural constraints.
