Mormon narratives: the lore of faith
Article Abstract:
Mormon folk tales bring the past into the present, inspiring Church members to show the same faith and courage of their pioneer ancestors. The struggle of the Mormons as they traveled from New York and settled in Utah where they encountered Indians, severe weather conditions, failed crops, disease, and jailings, is reflected in these narratives that have been passed down in the form of oral history. These stories attempt to strengthen faith and provide instruction on how to lead a virtuous life.

Vengeful ancestors and animal spirits: personal narratives of the supernatural in a Japanese New Religion
Article Abstract:
Ancient and modern Japanese history, religion, literature, and art is filled with descriptive listings of powerful, vengeful, dead or living, spirits that are either animal or human. These spirits possess the humans, haunt them and can even cause their death. This traditional belief in spirits has survived for centuries and can be found in Japanese New Religions, despite predictions by modern theories that such practices would eventually die out with developments and progress in the society.

Treacherous towns in Mexico: Chiricahua Apache personal narratives of horrors
Article Abstract:
The Chiricahua Apache personal narratives of horrors portray the Mexicans as treacherous people not to be trusted. These narratives started being composed during the 1820s and portray Mexicans in a hostile way due to their threat at this time to Apache autonomy. The power of these stories weakened as international and reservation boundaries drove the two peoples apart but faint traces of the stories survive today.
