Article Abstract:
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has organized a coalition of smaller political parties to form a minority government. The BJP has become an increasingly formidable opponent of the once-dominant Congress Party and its performance in the 1998 general elections has proven that the party is a major political force in Indian politics. The BJP and the influence of its growth on the Indian party system and Indian politics is analyzed.
