Opposition to the entry of the foreign press in India, 1991-1995: the hidden agenda
Article Abstract:
This article examines the Indian government's consideration to allow foreign press companies to operate in the country as a part of economic development and the protests they received, which forced the government to drop the proposal. The author argues that the elites of the Indian media industry ran a successful campaign to keep out the foreign press, disguising their financial agenda as a prevention of cultural imperialism.
