Personal politics in the Chinese 'danwei' under reform
Article Abstract:
The 'danwei' is the most basic collective unit in the Chinese political and social order, performing both statist and societal functions. Under the ongoing reform in Chinese politics, the 'danwei' remains a powerful but increasingly autonomous association. As a social structure, however, the 'danwei' shows indications of disintegrating due to the shift to market economy and loss of faith in the Chinese Communist Party.
