Presidential address--Samurai trouble: Thoughts on war and loyalty
Article Abstract:
There is a powerful argument made for the necessity of teaching about warfare without jingoism, without sentimentality, and without creating the romance of the good soldier. The American war in Iraq makes this kind of 'truth telling about war' an essential component of scholarship and teaching.
