Prospect for U.S.-Japan security cooperation
Article Abstract:
Several factors will determine whether the US and Japan can maintain their close relations with each other in the years ahead. These include the North Korean issue, trade friction between the two countries, an expansion in Japan's regional and international role and multilateral security cooperation. Continued cooperation between the US and Japan in the economic, political and security spheres is needed to help maintain progress in Asia.

Japan's response to terror: dispatching the SDF to the Arabian Sea
Article Abstract:
The reasons for the ease of Japan to dispatch its military overseas after September 11,2001 than during the 1990 Gulf crisis are discussed. The effect of continued benign overseas deployments has greater importance for encouraging Asian acceptance of a larger Japanese military role.
