Revolution and rank in Tamil nationalism
Article Abstract:
The conceptualization of rank or antastu remained largely untouched by the cultural revolution that marked Tamil nationalism in India from the 1920s to the 1960s. While radical innovations in Tamil terms, such as manam formed the major ideological themes of the Tamil nationalist cosmology, antastu remained embedded in the pre-revolutionary hierarchial values of Tamil society. Antastu derived from socio-political status and was linked to notions of authority and status a person enjoyed through his command over resources. Antastu was closely linked with Celvakku or influence rather than with manam.

Language of the people in the world of Gods: ideologies of Tamil before the nation
Article Abstract:
The language Tamil has been treated as divine in the pre-nationalism period and only in the context of Tamil nationalism has been promoted as being related to the people. An analysis of 'Maturaic Cokkanatar Tamil Vitututu' shows the representation of the language as king and God. The atheistic Dravidian ideology sought to remake the image of Tamil in the spirit of nationalism and brought in the idea of mother tongue.
