Rewriting Cambodian history to 'adapt' it to a new political context: the Kampuchean People's Revolutionary Party's historiography (1979-1991)
Article Abstract:
The Kampuchean People's Revolutionary Party (KPRP) began to rewrite its history when its rule in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, commenced in 1979. The KPRP, formerly known as the Cambodian Communist Party, wanted to distance itself from its former leader Pol Pot and his destructive actions. Reinforcing the party's ties with the Vietnamese, who helped them overthrow the previous government, was also important. Portrayal of the KPRP as an equal to their Vietnam counterpart gave the party more clout.
