Article Abstract:

Sanjhi, the ancient art of paper stenciling that has been found in Mathura and Vrindavan, has been intimately linked to Vrajabhoomi because its subject matter has always been the stories and motifs of the Krishna legend. The art of sanjhi involves the composition and drawing of the picture, its expert cutting with small, fine, custom-made scissors, and then the use of the stencil to create the images.

The Banten Rebellion of 1750 is described in two recent standard accounts in totally different ways. A 'socio-political approach', is introduced, which uses local conditions to determine the factors that are responsible for the mass gathering in the Banten rebellion of 1750.
