Test match special
Article Abstract:
The 5 million pounds sterling NatWest Media Centre at Lord's cricket ground in London, England, is one of the first 'monocoque' buildings in the UK. Technical problems have made it necessary to delay the completion date, but the building is still due to open in May 1999 for the cricket World Cup. Architectural firm Future Systems has designed a pod-like structure with a 40 mt wide glass front. There is space for 140 journalists on two floors, along with a 50-seat restaurant. It has been necessary to employ boatbuilders, who are accustomed to working with aluminium.
