'Sometimes it takes experts to tell the difference': a believer's perspective on Pentecostal sermons
Article Abstract:
A folklorist and Pentecostal examines Pentacostalism and its place in his life in an effort to promote better understanding of the religion and to defend the concept of scholarly research from an insider's perspective. He recalls moments of speaking in tongues and intimate communion with God and the Holy Spirit as well as explains considerations of the Pentecostal faith as a folk religion. The folklorist, through his status as a believer, offers the added value of an understanding and perspective much different from an outside researcher.

Connecting with God: Christian women's sermons and the revisioning of the Divine
Article Abstract:
Sermons of Christian women offer descriptions of God which are closely related to their life experiences and are more concerned with God's whereabouts or place in their lives than with a particular image of God. Women appear to experience God more intimately than men, and are more likely to claim physical reactions to God's presence, such as speaking in tongues. God has often symbolized male dominance and in connecting intimately with God, women can attempt an understanding of God's place in their lives.
