"The West" and the anthropology of other people's colonialism: Frederick Starr in Korea, 1911-1930

Frederick Starr, the first anthropologist to hold a position at the University of Chicago, had a wide research interest and was an avid fieldworker making numerous trips to Mexico, Liberia, the Congo, the Philippines, and in the United States. His greatest contribution lies not in his formal publications but in the wide interest he created in the field of anthropology.

Dead bodies in the postwar discourse of identity in seventeenth-century Korea: subversion and literary production in the private sector
Article Abstract:
This article discusses how physical remains of victims of crimes against humanity act as metaphors. The author, focusing of 17th century Korea, explores how the dead bodies act as a representation of the brutal social and political change of the Korean state due to the Manchu invasion, as well as provide national memory.
