Article Abstract:
A number of distinct themes have emerged in the study of relations between the US and Latin America. These include the use of the concept of the 'hemispheric idea,' or Pan-Americanism. Recent scholarship in this area has played a valuable part in boosting overall understanding of US-Latin American relations. Areas of development include growing emphasis on the need to understand the internal dynamics in both the US and Latin America if a country's foreign policy is to be more fully analyzed.
