Too close to call: a running mate of dead heat, squeaker and photo finish

The roots of terms meaning 'a near thing' are discussed. Some include, 'close call,' 'close shave.'and 'cliffhanger.' The term 'squeaker' is first noted in 1737 as 'give me a squeake for my life.' The Duke of Wellington is quoted as saying after Waterloo, 'It was a damned close-run thing.'

Wolves at the door
Article Abstract:
Pennsylvania is home to the United States American Wolf Dog Association, which has over 2,000 members in the state. Wolf dogs behave much more like wolves than dogs. Since 1988 six children have been killed, and seven more mauled, by wolf dogs.
