A Welshman's ruling passion
Article Abstract:
Colin Laskey used to be a respected rugby union player, and was later in demand as a referee. However, he has been shunned since he was tried at the Old Bailey in 1990 in a case involving sadomasochistic practices. He has now won the right to challenge his conviction in the European Court of Human Rights, and admits to still being involved in sadomasochism. He claims that it does not deserve its very negative public image, and is disappointed that his private life has had to intrude on his work as a referee in this way.

Let's keep our passion private, please
Article Abstract:
Most British people still disapprove of public displays of affection, regarding such behaviour as undignified and embarrassing. Such displays intrude on the concerns of everyday life, distracting people's attention and appearing inappropriate in a business or social context. Most couples would not behave in this way in front of their relatives, so should not do so in front of complete strangers.

Article Abstract:
Composer Arvo Part has gained a reputation for having a strongly mystical and spiritual approach to his work. His personality is as mesmerising as his music, which is written in a very slow, methodical way. He has been greatly influenced by plainsong, which prompts him to compose with extreme simplicity.
