Concern about privacy on the Internet has focused on the use of 'cookies,' small data files which are used by Web browser programs to store data about Internet users and their computers. Cookies will not take personal information from an individual's computer, but it is true that they are being increasingly used to monitor the movements of users within Web sites. In this way, companies which run Web sites can establish demographic profiles of users and produce targeted advertising. The latest versions of Navigator and Internet Explorer allow the user to refuse a cookie.

There has been a wide range of high quality educational software available to Apple Macintosh users for some time, but very little games software. This is set to change as developers begin to offer lookalike versions of popular games. Apple has also developed the QuickTime VR graphics system in order to attract more games developers.
