A guardian fighting on two fronts
Article Abstract:
The Guardian newspaper is making considerable efforts to ensure that it does not make a loss in 1996, according to editor Alan Rusbridger. He has recently won the Editor of the Year award, but his newspaper continues to face serious problems. Some observers even believe that financial difficulties at the Observer, the Guardian's sister newspaper, could lead to financial ruin for the Guardian too. He denies that recent job cuts at the Guardian are linked to the problems at the Observer.

Publishers chase hi-tech revenues

Copyright crashes on the superhighway
Article Abstract:
Many experts believe that existing copyright laws offer insufficient protection for material made available on the information superhighway. Many companies are now transmitting material in this way, but this may compromise the rights of journalists, graphic artists, photographers and others who produced the original material. This problem will get worse as technology advances much faster than copyright law.
