President George Bush continues to consider his country's military response to the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Centre and the Pentagon. Most experts anticipate that there will be a two-phase response, with a rapid, initial attack using bombs or cruise missiles being followed by a long-term military, economic and diplomatic effort.

US prepared for loss of life in a war of attrition

Article Abstract:

US military action against those believed to be behind the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Centre and the Pentagon will be a long, bitter campaign, rather than a rapid strike. There will be extensive diplomatic activity, and military action will bring together many different countries.

All over the world, the mourning goes on

Article Abstract:

Memorial services have taken place across the US in memory of the victims of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Centre and the Pentagon. There was a strong sense of unity as worshippers honoured the dead and prayed for the relatives and friends.
