A new mob on the waterfront

Article Abstract:

The Brighton Beach area of Brooklyn has more than 50,000 residents who are emigres from the former Soviet Union. It is believed that more than 2,000 of these people are committed members of Russian gangs. Experts claim that many are trained in New York and then sent to form cells in other countries. However, the capture of Vyacheslav Ivankov, who is charged with conspiracy to extort money from two Russian emigres, may serve to ensure that the Russian mafia does not establish firm operations in the US.

You can hurry love

Article Abstract:

Many professional New York women in their 30s find it very hard to meet suitable partners, as they work long hours and there are few single men available. New York has a strong imbalance between the sexes, with the 25-35 age group containing almost 30% more single women than single men. This could because the city has a large service sector, where many women are employed. Many women are now using dating agencies, which tend to be expensive and discreet.
