A parting of the minds

Article Abstract:

Sane, a charity which campaigns on behalf of the mentally ill, has protested strongly against a fundraising circular from Mind, which also works for the mentally ill, in which it seeks funds for a campaign to limit the use of anti-psychotic drugs. Mind believes that these drugs are directly related to deaths among mentally ill people, while Sane claims that there is no evidence to support this view. Sane has stated that Mind's approach will made some mentally ill people too frightened to take their medication.

... the monarchy must quit its infantile fairyland

Article Abstract:

The British monarchy holds little real power, but it is still one of the main preoccupations of the public imagination. The many trappings which go with the monarchy trap people in a child-like fairyland of past years, blinding them to the fact that the monarchy turns everyone into mere subjects. It is a good think that the Princess of Wales has decided to tell the truth about what goes on within royal circles, as this may serve to hasten the end of the monarchy.

A very undiplomatic incident

Article Abstract:

The departure of Dame Pauline Neville-Jones from her position as political director at the Foreign Office has attracted considerable controversy. In all other cases, people in this position have gone on to take a Grade 1 ambassadorial post, but she was not selected to head the Paris embassy. Some observers believe that this was because there was reluctance within the Foreign Office to select a woman, and that a man would not have suffered in this way.
