A passionate man

Article Abstract:

There is no connection between the film a director is working on and his or her emotions at that time, according to Woody Allen, who has just begun to direct his 26th film. He is always thinking ahead to his next project, and rarely takes time to relax. He is soon to see the opening of 'Everyone Says I Love You,' his first musical, in New York. This is light and lively, but features Drew Barrymore in a role with which she seems rather uncomfortable.

A deadly smell of rotten fish

Article Abstract:

Conditions at New York's fish market remain almost the same as when the Mafia controlled many businesses in the 1930s. In this case, the Genovese family is in control, and is thought to impose a 20% tax on every ounce of fish eaten in the city. New York City authorities have now taken over the management of the fish market, hoping to drive the family out of bussiness, but many observers believe that this move will not succeed.

The lullaby of Broadway has become a battle-cry, as a bitter dispute between big-time producers and all-powerful unions threatens to kill off America's wounded theatre capital

Article Abstract:

New York's Broadway theatres have stopped attracting people who actually live in the city, and have become a tourist haven instead. Many observers believe that Broadway is experiencing serious difficulties, with many theatres being unable to find successful shows. There is very little original material, with only nine new plays being staged in the 1994-95 season.
