A stranger rides up from Texas

Article Abstract:

H Ross Perot, a Texan billionaire declared on Feb 20, 1992 that he would run for the presidency of the US if the people supported him, although he has never contested an elective office before. In 1962 he founded Electronic Data Systems (EDS) which he sold to General Motors in 1984. He is famous for rescuing two EDS employees stranded in Iran. His views are a mixture of left and right; he has liberal ideas on social issues and would remedy the $400 billion federal budget deficit by eliminating waste and fraud, reducing welfare payments and having the allies repay their defence costs.

And then there were three

Article Abstract:

Popular American ideologies at the presidential elections in 1992 are liberalism and conservatism, not Democrat or Republican. Single issues go across party views. The Supreme Court ruling on abortion in Jul 1992 greatly influences the election result. Ross Perot's campaign, which suggests reform and common sense, takes support away from Mr Bush. States which were strongly Republican are accountable now there is a third candidate. Geographical campaigning needs recalculating. It is thought that Perot may cause a great change in American politics.

Party's hopes and fears hang on Dole's words

Article Abstract:

The speech which Bob Dole will deliver when he accepts the Republican party's presidential nomination could determine the success or failure of his campaign for the presidency. He has made some solid achievements recently, and the party's convention has been a success. However, he must still deliver a very strong speech, especially if he is to avoid being overshadowed by vice presidential candidate Jack Kemp.
