A writer's place is in the wrong

Article Abstract:

A residential screenwriting workshop held at Herstmonceux Castle near Eastbourne, England, involved 17 writers, five script editors and three tutors. The workshop, part of an international programme, included script analysis, revision and rehearsal with directors such as Gillies MacKinnon and Les Blair. There was extensive analysis and rewriting of the scripts presented, but nobody involved in the workshop was really able to identify exactly what makes a great screenplay.

More bangs for your Buck

Article Abstract:

Screenwriter Buck Henry is determined that he will not write a sequel to 'The Graduate,' his film version of the novel by Charles Webb, even though there would be great interest from producers in such a project. He enjoys writing dialogue for characters who are unable to express what they are thinking, and has close links with an elliptical style, as also shown in the film 'To Die For.' He is also a talented actor, and has appeared in a number of his own films.

Mud: silts up cities, cleans your pores

Article Abstract:

Kaunos, Turkey, was a thriving city in the ninth century BC, but became deserted when its harbour silted up, bringing mosquitoes and malaria. Much of the city remains to be excavated, but it is still a very interesting place to visit, especially because of its hilltop location. It is possible to travel by boat from Kaunos to Ilica, Turkey, where the main attraction is the Aqua Mia mud baths.
