Alex Gregory-Hood

Article Abstract:

Soldier and art dealer Alex Gregory-Hood joined the Grenadier Guards on leaving Sandhurst in 1935. He had a distinguished record of service during the second world war, but resigned in 1960 after being nominated for the Imperial Defence College. Shortly afterwards, he purchased a collage by Israeli artist Baram from Annely Juda's Molton Gallery. He went into partnership with Juda in 1982. He entered the contemporary art scene in the UK in 1962, when he became director of the Rowan Gallery in Belgravia, London, England.

1945 - the art of peace

Article Abstract:

The exhibition of paintings and sculpture created in 1945 currently being held at Annely Juda Fine Art contains a wide range of very interesting material. Visitors will find it fascinating to consider the conditions under which this work was undertaken and the views of the individual artists involved. It is particularly interesting to realise that London in 1945 was very isolated from developments in contemporary art.

Light fantastic

Article Abstract:

The Hayward Gallery in London, England, is currently holding a work-in-progress show of the paintings of Howard Hodgkin in the period since 1976. Each work has great physical impact and immediacy, and makes very striking use of strong blocks of colour. Most of the paintings seem to give off a generalised light-drenched mood, with broadly painted frames sometimes entering the action of the centrally contained images.
