Alternative medicine a health risk, say experts

Article Abstract:

The New England Journal of Medicine, a respected medical journal, has run a series of articles which claims that so-called alternative medical remedies can be harmful in two ways. Firstly because they can have direct adverse effects and secondly because the treatments are ineffective in themselves and dangerous when used as a substitute for a proper medically proved treatment. They also said that many of the claims for herbal treatments and health foods on labels were misleading and that such products should face tougher regulation and testing.
