And you thought Britain had a bad Games

Article Abstract:

IBM's reputation has been severely damaged by problems with the computer system which it provided for the 1996 Olympic Games. The system was unable to supply accurate results quickly, causing difficulties for international news agencies relying on the Info 96 service. The company's main mistake was to fail to run enough simulated tests on the system. However, the problems were mainly overcome by the second week of the Games, and the company's share price does not seem to have suffered any long-term damage.

Revenge of the losers

Article Abstract:

There have been a number of terrorist attacks in the US in 1995 and 1996, all with different purposess. In the US, Timothy McVeigh, who carried out the bombing in Oklahoma City was a militiaman, Theodore Kaczynski, the alleged Unabomber, was obsessively against computer technology, whilst the arsonists who damaged black churches hated blacks. The US terrorists do not appear to have the same kind of definite achievable purpose as terrorists elsewhere.
