Another sting in the tale of the city of scorpions

Article Abstract:

The conflict over the city of Jerusalem is likely to become more intense and more violent following the decision by Israel to construct a Jewish settlement at Har Homa. Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat is seeking support from the US, but it is very unlikely that the Israeli decision will be reversed. Israelis are very unwilling to accept any sort of power sharing agreement which would allow Palestinians to have their capital in Jerusalem too, and it does not seem possible that the conflict will be resolved in the foreseeable future.

Netanyahu juggles ideology with deal-making

Article Abstract:

Israeli prime minister Binyamin Netanyahu, who has now been in power for 100 days, is currently attempting to convince European leaders that his coalition of right-wing and religious parties has not put an end to the peace process. He believes that his tougher approach offers a better chance to achieve lasting peace. However, some observers do not share his view, and feel that serious confrontations, such as the recent exchange of gunfire between Israeli and Palestinian security forces near Ramallah, will become more common.
