Apartheid's priests don sackcloth and seek forgiveness

Article Abstract:

The Dutch Reformed Church in South Africa has admitted that it was guilty of injustices under the apartheid regime. The church, which is appearing before the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, had until very recently refused to make any apology for its actions under apartheid. This issue has caused a serious rift within the church between liberals and hardliners. Furthermore, it remains racially divided, with the Afrikaner core remaining separate from the chapters for black and Coloured members.

Hani's killers face the truth test

Article Abstract:

The leader of the South African Communist Party (SACP), Chris Hani, was murdered in 1993 by Janusz Walus. Walus has asked for amnesty from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC), as has Clive Derby-Lewis, previously a member of parliament for the South African Conservative Party. Hani was also previously head of the military wing of the African National Congress, which opposes amnesty and sees the two accused as part of a larger political conspiracy.

Working wonders in Wolverhampton

Article Abstract:

There are now many towns and cities in the UK which are attempting to revive the image of their established retail and business centres, making them more competitive with out-of-town retail malls. These include Wolverhampton, where a town centre manager has been appointed. He pays great attention to environmental detail, such as litter, and has worked hard to gain the confidence of retailers and council officials.
