Archbishop Frano Ilia
Article Abstract:
Archishop Frano Ilia was consecrated by Pope John Paul ll in 1993 at the age of 75-years-old. He saw the problems created by pyramid investment schemes in Albania as the work of the devil. Ilia was arrested and sentenced to death in 1968, charged with being a spy for the Vatican. His sentence was commuted to imprisonment for life, and he was set free in 1986. Religious freedom appeared again in Albania, and Ilia held a public Mass in 1990, the first for decades in the location of Juban, Albania.
