Former rock musician Bob Geldof, who has become a multimillionaire through the sale of his share in television company Planet 24, can be regarded as a flawed post-modern hero. He is both vulnerable and self-absorbed, and has suffered trauma in both his career and his private life. He has been officially recognized for his work in raising money for projects in Africa, but has never been quite what people have expected. He feels that his unconventional approach has made it possible to make compassion fashionable.
