Arise ye knights of the cask-conditioned ale
Article Abstract:
The Campaign for Real Ale (Camra) is 21 years old in 1992, their membership having grown from four founders to 35,000 members at an annual subscription of 10 pounds sterling. Their aim is to preserve and encourage the production of and demand for 'real', or cask conditioned, ales. These are not filtered or pasteurised but are instead gradually brought to the peak of perfection inside a barrel in the cellars or on the counter of a public house. Camra produces its Good Beer Guide and 75% of pubs now offer cask conditioned ales, a tribute to Camra's efforts.
