Article Abstract:

Many orchestral musicians seem to have forgotten why they began a career in music, and this makes it hard for them to take the necessary risks to become great performers, according to conductor Benjamin Zander. He believes that orchestras should be encouraged to start afresh which each piece of music, considering what differences can be made to it. He teaches graduate courses in interpretation and chamber music at the New England Conservatory, and is also founder-conductor of the Boston Philharmonic.

The London Philharmonia orchestra has a very attractive sound, according to conductor Benjamin Zander. He is to conduct this orchestra in Mahler's Sixth Symphony at the Royal Festival Hall.
