Mobile operators make location big business

Location-based services (LBS) could be providing revenues of $82 billion for mobile phone operators in Western Europe by 2005, according to Strategis Group. LBS technology is advancing quickly, but most systems are still under development.

Beleaguered mobile phone firms look to GPRS for shot in the arm

BT Cellnet will be the first mobile phone firm to make a General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) available in the UK. It is likely that GPRS, which is set to offer permanent internet access and fast data links, will attract some criticism.

BT Cellnet marks break from parent by renaming itself as O2

Article Abstract:

All BT Wireless brands will use the name O2 by spring 2002. This is part of plans by BT Wireless to distance itself from its parent company in the run-up to its demerger in mid-Nov 2001. The company itself will be known as mmO2.
